KERICHO ROVERS 2-3 SUNDERLAND AFC KEROCHE
WHAT A BEAUTIFUL DAY, IT’S DAYS LIKE TODAY THAT MAKES YOU REALISE HOW WONDERFUL FOOTBALL IS.
OUR 1ST TEAM WIN
OUR SENIOR ACADEMY TEAM WIN
OUR UK TEAM WIN AT WEMBLEY STADIUM
OUR WAZEE TEAM LOSE A FEW LBS FROM THEIR BELLIES
The day started really early as our 1st team left Naivasha at 5.45am to make the long 5-6 hr journey to Matobo, in Tea growing heartlands of Kericho County.
Following behind the 2 1st team buses were 4 cars in which our WAZEE team were travelling, to play a friendly game also against Kericho Rovers wazee team.
1ST TEAM MATCH REPORT
The game kicked off in temperatures of some 33 degrees, and both teams were at it straight from KICK-OFF.
It was a tough battle, mainly in the midfield areas, but in the 29th minute PHILO picked up the ball some 25yds out, turned his defender an unleashed a thunderbolt into the top corner to lead (0-1)
We almost scored a second goal 2 mins later when Capt Jose’s shot was deflected onto the post by a great save by their keeper.
Kericho were a very strong and physical team, but in the first half they didn’t force our keeper MBURU into a serious save.
When the 2nd half got underway, it was still an end to end game with both teams creating chances, until in the 75th minute.
Kericho Rovers had a corner, which was headed out by our defence, but landed at the feet of a Kericho player on the edge of the box, and his first time shot, nestled into the bottom right hand corner (1-1)
Only 4 mins later (79mins) an outrageous decision by the referee, when he awarded Kericho a penalty for hand ball, when the ball clearly hit our defender in the chest and Kericho never even appealed for a penalty, and looked just as shocked as our boys by the refs decision.
They stepped up to score from the spot with a really beautiful penalty high to our keepers left side. (2-1)
Most teams would drop ther heads after conceding a 1 goal lead to trailing 2-1 with only 11 mins remaining, BUT NOT OUR BOYS.
We seemed to be so angry at the penalty decision and went at them like a pack of Lions, and just 2 mins later new signing EZRA on his debut, scored a peach of a goal cutting in from the right wing to calmly slot home (2-2) 81mins.
We were now peppering their goal and were rewarded in the 85th minute, when a cross from the right of midfield was headed on by MUTUGUTI, and PHILO lost his marker to slot home. (2-3)
Even though the ref added 8 mins extra time we held on for a great victory, and will enjoy the long journey home.
Straight after the games our WAZEE team took to the pitch for a friendly and help them lose a few extra lbs from their waist.
They lost 2-0 but thoroughly enjoyed themselves, and it’s great for the “Old men” to still be part of our club.
Back at the Eco Logic Partners Stadium of Light our senior academy boys kept up their 7yr unbeaten run with a 4-2 victory over Viwandani senior academy, with 2 1st half goals from MURAGE & STEVO, with ERNESTO and EDWIN each scoring in the 2nd half.
The day was topped off when our UK team finally got a victory at WEMBLEY STADIUM to lift the Papa JOHNS cup.
