Mayenje Santos vs Sunderland AFC Keroche
Recap
It could only happen in Kenya
We departed Naivasha at 3am, for the long journey to Busia Stadium to face MAYENJE SANTOS., in National division 1.
We arrived at approximately 11am, and went to the pitch for prematch checks with the refs and matchcom, plus a FIFA official
Fans started arriving, but the only thing missing was the home team.
So phone calls were made, and we were informed by the FKF that MAYENJE had sent them an email at 7.40am, requesting the game be postponed. (We never found out the reason why, and not even 1 member of their club showed up)
League rules state any such request must be given at least 72hrs before the scheduled kick off.
Even then, only exceptional circumstances would allow a postponement.
So following league rules we stayed 45mins beyond the scheduled kick off time, when the ref, matchcom and officials awarded a 2-0 walkover victory to us.
So in theory, we spent all those funds, travelled a huge distance , only for the home team not to show up.
Even the fans in the large stand, were so disappointed that there own team let them down, and even started chanting our team name before we left the stadium
Anyway the 2-0 victory has lifted us in 5th place in the league, 3pts behind the leaders with a game in hand..
May we just add that in our 10yr history our club have never failed to honour any single game, including even friendlies
