SUNDERLAND AFC KEROCHE 2 MKU 1
Todays league opener was an emotional day, after the sad loss of DICKENS mother yesterday.
But DICKENS made the 3hr journey from Nairobi, and was determined to play a part in the game, in memory of his mother.
Before kick-off both teams and all the fans observed a minutes silence for Mama Dickens.
In an even game MKU took the lead on 22 mins from a beautiful curling free-kick just outside the box.
Only 6 mins later our goalscoring machine PHILO equalised after great build up play.
Then on 41mins 2nd vice capt. WARURU put us in the lead, once again after great build up play.
Our new exciting midfield player POGBA was having a great influence on the game, but he took a heavy challenge, and had to be replaced just before half time, by the returning MBURU.
So we went to half time leading 2-1.
The second half was a tough encounter, with tackles flying in from MKU, as they tried to intimidate our boys, but we stood our ground.
Then on 64mins the heavy rains came, and the fans ran for cover to watch from the school porches.
On 80mins DICKENS entered the pitch to great applause from the fans, to replace CAPT JOSE, but was almost immediately yellow carded, after the linesman informed the ref that he was not informed of the substitution.
After numerous heavy tackles, the game went into 10mins of added time, with the heavy rains still coming down. (See picture of the pitch)
But the lads held on to seal a great victory against a very strong MKU side (who took 4pts from us last season)
We dedicate todays victory to Mama Dickens .
Next weekend we make the long 7-8 hr drive to face CHEBIRBELEK FC
